Fighter

Juan Javier Barragán was born on 24 May 1984 in Rotterdam. His father is of Spanish descent and was born in Tenerife and his mother is Dutch, originally from Rotterdam. Javier has 3 brothers, two of whom live in Spain and come from his father's second marriage. Javier is a professional kickboxer in the -65kg class. Due to his dual nationality, he come out for both the Netherlands and Spain.

The interest in boxing was there at a young age. At the age of 11 he started kickboxing at 'Sportschool Ommoord' under the guidance of Cees Jansen and then kids coach Sjoerd van der Plas. Around the age of thirteen, he moved to the adult group and soon started competing. For competitions he trained three times a week with Cees Jansen and twice a week with Teun Brommer. In addition, 1 times a week endurance training. Javier did well and won many matches by knockout. As a result, he lost the focus and discipline to prepare for competitions and to put everything aside for this. He switched gyms several times because he blamed the gym where he was training at the time. For example, he trained at Vos Gym Rotterdam and Sitan Gym International where at the time all the great champions trained under the guidance of Mohamed Ait Hassou. He also trained for a while in Amsterdam at Fight Factory Carbin with Lucien Carbin at the helm, but because he did not regain the feeling he had at Gym Ommoord where everything had started, he decided to stop training and give up boxing.

During that period he had several jobs and tried different things, but the hunger for fighting remained. Eventually he started working again at Jan Oosterbaan through a friend and from there he continued with the brothers Adil and Nabil Boukhari. Both big names from the boxing world and champions of the famous Sports Center 010. Despite working with these top trainers, whom all saw a great talent in him, it didn't come out and he couldn't resume the feeling he had in the past, as an almost unbeatable talent. He quit boxing again and decided to study communication. Although he found it a very interesting and fun study, it turned out that studying and school were not really his thing.

He quit his studies after three years and started working in healthcare at Ipse de Brugge in Zwammerdam. He also worked at various psychiatric institutions as a physical care supervisor. Working with low mentally and mentally handicapped people and providing them with a better living environment gave him enormous satisfaction.

But the fighter in him remained, and the fact that he had left things unfinished at the time continued to gnaw at him. In 2013 decided to go back to where it all started; Sportschool Ommoord. He decided to go back to training. In order to be able to fully focus on this, also financially, he moved in with his aunt where he could sleep on the couch. This way, all energy, financial resources and attention could go to training and the focus was again on realizing his dream; become and remain the best fighter in the world. He sometimes trained there three times a day and six times a week. The day he didn't train was all about resting and recovering. The many reactions he received on social media only encouraged him even more to pursue his dream and train extremely hard and dedicatedly. His network also grew and he came into contact with people who could help realize his dream such as trainers, masseurs and other gyms. Competition offers also followed. He didn't want to start again until he was back at the absolute level of competition. His first match was one at a benefit gala to benefit the cancer fund. Part of his gage also went to this foundation. A great start to pick up competitions again, partly because he himself has lost two uncles to this disease. This match he fought against Hannes Schneider in -70kg class. He felt completely at home in the ring again during this match and he knew that he was on his way to becoming the true person within himself.

After this match more followed and he won them one by one. In February 2014 during a fight against Ruben Narain in Dubai, which took place under the supervision of the local sheikh, he won his 1st world title kickboxing. In June 2014, he won the European Thai boxing title by the great talent and experienced fighter Zakaria Tijarti by knockout.

After winning a 2nd kickboxing world title in 2015, and Juan has fought several matches in Asia and the Arab Emirates, fighting was put on the back burner for a while. The main reason for this is that during that period his 1st son named Liam was born and in 2017 his 2nd son Jason.

During the years 2014-2018, Javier also ran his own martial arts full-time and was involved in teaching his martial arts to both adults and children on a daily basis.

Now that life is more calm and his kids are a little older Javier is fully focused on his career as a professional fighter worldwide but also on his further personal and business development.
